ICT Test Lab association is a trade body representing various Indian and international tests labs engaged in testing and certification of various products for India. Primarily in India standards and certification is handled by three Government bodies. The lab association represents all labs engaged in testing and certification for all the three bodies:

1. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the legal statutory body responsible for standards and certifications in India for any and all the products. BIS comes under Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Government of India. Some of the products testing’s and certification are compulsory and others are optional. The testing is done by BIS accredited labs.

2. Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), Government of India for specific electronic products has prescribed the compulsory certification by way of administrative order called Compulsory Registration order ( CRO), for which registrations are done by BIS on the basis of testing done by BIS accredited labs and some of the MeitY own test bodies called ETDC, STQC labs. Mobile handset as of August, 2018 is included in CRO, but is already decided to be shifted to Telecom category and date of implementation will be announced soon.

3. Ministry of Telecommunications under the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 and Indian Telegraph (amended) Rules, 2017 has recently prescribed mandatory testing and certification of all “telecom” equipments before the sale or imports of use in India. This is called MTCTE. The certification is done by Ministry owned Telecom Engineering Center on the basis of testing done by TEC accredited labs or TEC regional centers. Mobile handsets are already included in MTCTE, but implementation will be shortly from a date to be announced soon.

Lab Association has been formed to bring together all the national and international test, certifications labs of India for effectively contributing to the quality testing, certifications in India.
